Born of parents hailing from Bengal, Mayuri was named so by her grandfather for her dancing. Her parents discovered her vocal talent when she was 5. By the age of 7 she was receiving formal training in Hindustani classical at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Delhi and was already a recognized talent amongst local program organizers. And to this day, Mayuri has kept up with vocal training through distant learning from Nivedita Dutta, residing in Bangalore.
